Adam “Nergal” Darski’s involvement with the new music reality TV show “The Voice of Poland” has been criticised and protested by the Catholic Association Of Journalists. An excerpt from the statement:
The participation of Adam Darski – a Satanist and outspoken enemy of Christian values – contradicts the missionary nature of Polish television
The Bishop, Wiesław Mering, who read this statement also called forth for a protest of TV fees from all Polish citizens.
Nergal’s opinion about his “flirtation with the mainstream”: “It’s going to be fun. The first black metal judge ever in history doing a mainstream thing, you know? People are going to freak out! Some are going to love it, some are going to fucking hate it. But that’s what this music has always been about, right? To provoke, to cause different opinions. The more extreme opinions, the better, I think.”
“This so-called celebrity life is not my environment at all, but I am a part of it if I want it or not. So it’s been crazy. Then the whole case with my sickness and me getting out alive [Nergal was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2010 and underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure in December.], it just brought some extra attention to it. And there’s definitely some people that want to make some money on it because it’s a cool story for them to write about and stuff, but I was like, ‘Okay, if they’re going to make money, I want to have my share, too.’ I was away from music and away from being active live for a good year, so yeah, I need to get something in return!”

Basically, Adam and Nergal are 2 different people! Quite frankly I really don’t care about Adam and what he does in his free time. The persona that he embodies on stage is what I admire and like. A tad hypocritical on his account, however no one has the right to condemn him for any of his actions, as it is his decision alone. As long as Nergal doesn’t show up in V-cut shirts with aviator shades and a pink scarf then we are ok! ;p

Hey, it’s all a matter of attitude- aviators and pink scarves, for example, are metal as all-get-out.
As for Nergal, well. Cynical me, but I think ‘Voice of Poland’ made an excellent marketing choice in boosting its ratings.
Though it does seem like the Journalists’ Association have awfully important things to comment about in these days of tumultuous social strife regarding that cornerstone of Polish- nay, European, make that global!- culture; Polish Pop Idol. For their courage in facing this most dangerous of anathemae, I heartily applaud them.

The Polish church/brainwashed anti-sect so-called politicians still attack Nergal being a satanist and don’t think they’ll ever stop any time soon… better coz it gives him more encouragement as with all of us metal maniacs.
As to his recent celebrity status, I gotta say that I don’t really approve of it, but hey, if he’s gonna continue writing and releasing awesome music and playing awesome live shows then I don’t care if he’s a “celebrity” or not!
