You know that feeling you get when you see a band live for the first time and you are compelled to headbang by the power of their music? Well, for me, this was the case when I saw Thunderwar open for Gortal in their hometown of Warsaw, Poland. Recently, they self-released their debut EP entitled The Birth of Thunder which was mixed and produced at the legendary Hertz Studio (Behemoth, Vader etc.). And guess what? The EP does the same damage to my brain as their live performance. This is just awesome death metal filled with great riffs, pounding drums and fat bass lines. The crystal clear sound and the short length of the release enables you to listen to it on repeat all day. This is a death metal EP inspired by the classics such as Vader, Unleashed, Bathory or Amon Amarth but, nonetheless, the band provides a lot of originality with the pleasant-to-the-ear melodies and drum fills. This band, without doubt, deserves to be recognised as one of the rising and most interesting new death metal acts out there. According to their Facebook page, one of the band’s aims is to prove that the Polish metal scene is still going strong and producing great music. Well, Thunderwar, all I have to say is: well done, mission successful!
This is an act which has to be heard all over the underground. So, let yourself drift into an area with stormy weather and listen to The Birth of Thunder…
