Boris the Blade – Warpath

"The intertwining of melodies and technical prowess really makes this more of a diverse listen which I feel separates them from the generic and overly saturated deathcore bands of yesteryear."

Australia’s metal scene throughout the ’80s and ’90s was always somewhat of an enigma, though there were a few well known underground acts such as Mortal Sin and Sadistik Exekution, they really struggled to climb the worldwide ranks and without any truly prolific label backing would most likely fall into obscurity. Fast forward to 2017 and the Aussies now have a repertoire of bands that easily stand up what the US and the UK have to offer. With bands like Parkway Drive, Thy Art is Murder, Aversions Crown, Psycroptic and Truth Corroded there is no denying the sheer brutality and strength that comes from such beautiful pastures. Melbourne’s own Boris the Blade are another group of bruisers that need to be kept a watchful eye on and are climbing the ranks steadily to worldwide acclaim. Having achieved a number 1 on the iTunes Metal Charts for their 2011 debut EP Tides of Damnation these guys are already doing an excellent job.

Boris the Blade’s follow up to their highly praised 2014 debut The Human Hive, Warpath is set for release on 27th January through Siege Music/Century Media Records who I easily rank among the best labels for modern metal as well as the old school. The best way to describe this upcoming effort is BLUDGEONING. They have it all! Catchy hooks, infectious grooves, blistering blastbeats and breakdowns that make you wince with agony. While this LP resembles a brick to the face, the intertwining of melodies and technical prowess really makes this more of a diverse listen which I feel separates them from the generic and overly saturated deathcore bands of yesteryear.

These maniacs have already dropped one hell of a music video for their self titled track “Warpath” in the last month which shows the band in their purest form and is a must watch. For fans of Thy Art is Murder it would be your lucky year as ex-frontman CJ McMahon also got himself involved on the track “Misery” which needless to say is skull crushing and his deranged vocal style really adds to the intensity of what is a great album. If you’re a fan of bands such as Bleeding Through (R.I.P) Oceano, Carnifex, Suicide Silence and Whitechapel, these guys without a shadow of doubt are worth all of your time and effort.
