Morta Skuld – Wounds Deeper Than Time

Heal those timeless wounds with some Morta Skuld!

Although death metal’s progression has been as viscous as its modern arrangements, nothing will ever top the brutality of the classic attack. Death metal origins were initially about voracity and speed but quickly evolved into the utilization of dismal grooves. The conscious decision to incorporate melody into emotion allowed individual groups to define their sound.

Morta Skuld are a little known death metal act from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Established in 1990, hanging it up in 1998, then resurfacing in 2012. Wounds Deeper Than Time is the group’s first full-length effort since 1997’s Surface. Morta Skuld plays a classic style of death metal. Heavy distortion with varying riffs, fiendish bass lines and rhythmic tempos set to put you into a trance.

The drawback to Morta Skuld is rooted in their attack itself. This is mid-paced death metal which over a thirty-minute listen, has the tendency to blend together. This effort, although slow moving and methodical, features bestial undertones laced with enough aggression to make it worthy. Highlight tracks for me are: “Breathe in the Black”, “My Weakness”, “Scars Within” and “Devour the Chaos”.

Wounds Deeper Than Time isn’t anything new but what the band lacks in originality, they make up for in execution. Heal those timeless wounds with some Morta Skuld !! \m/

About David Halbe (270 Articles)
I live in the USA and I'm a fan of all types of metal: Black, Death, Hair, Thrash, Nu, Core, Sleeze, Stoner, Groove, etc... I have a huge collection of heavy metal CDs and I have been attending shows since 1986. Nothing is too extreme or poserish for me, if it rocks it rocks. Metal is the music we all have in common, it is our lifeblood. \m/
