Just dropping by with a quick update on the Bloodstock front (see previous installments to bring yourself up to speed) with the new latest additions to the impressive line-up. You may in for a surprise…
First up we have I Am I, the new project of ex-DragonForce vocalist ZP Theart. However, it’s not a far cry from his preceding band, as can be heard in the first song available so far. Given the number of cries from the power metal crowd for more melody on the main stage, this is an eyebrow-raising move on Bloodstock’s part owing to I Am I being a very new band, but it will be interesting to see how they themselves go over on the Ronnie James Dio stage. Have a listen to “This Is My Life” and see what you think!
Secondly, and one that made my ears prick up, UK death metal legends Benediction are going to grace the Ronnie James Dio stage. I previously saw Benediction giving the Sophie Stage a new makeover two years ago, and will be happily going along to see them again on a bigger stage, and headbanging along to classics such as “Unfound Mortality”, “The Dreams You Dread” and “They Must Die Screaming”, although also keep your ears pricked for new material due to emerge. For now, throw the horns to “They Must Die Screaming” from the 2008 release Killing Music.
N.B. The more studious among you will realize this means that vocalist Dave Hunt is pulling double shifts with his other project Anaal Nathrakh headlining the Sophie Stage the day after. All part of the fun, folks.
