BLAAKYUM Talk Wacken Open Air, Metal Battle & Lebanese Metal Scene

Third prize winners of Wacken Open Air's Metal Battle competition talk to us about their experience with Wacken and their country's metal scene.

The Wacken Open Air Metal Battle is truly something exceptional in the music industry. Bands from many parts of the world apply and then compete in order to win a spot to perform at the final at the “holy ground” of Wacken Open Air. There are five winners, who are announced towards the end of the festival, and who receive a monetary prize and equipment. However, it is more than just playing at the world’s biggest festival and winning a prize. It is an opportunity to demonstrate yourself as a band and to network with plenty music industry figures and press.

The Metal Battle tries to expand as much as possible every year by adding new countries and territories. One such new country this year was Lebanon which was part of the Metal Battle Middle East. What made the Lebanese band’s appearance even more special was that it was the first time ever a Lebanese band performed at Wacken. That band is Blaakyum and they well-deservedly won third place for their interpretation of heavy/thrash metal with a touch of Middle Eastern oriental music.

About Dom (1278 Articles)
I started this website in 2011 because I always had a burning passion of sharing music and keeping people informed about what's going on in the metal and rock worlds. If I am not sitting in a dark room in front of a computer, listening to some obscure music (or Whitesnake), then I am usually found at a concert or a festival interviewing bands (or drinking beer).
