MR Xmas Calendar Day 1: Nothing

In the run-up to Christmas, we look at bands and artists which impressed us or had some impact in 2016!

Band: Nothing
Label: Relapse Records
Country: USA
Genre: Shoegaze, Noise Rock, Alternative Rock

Shoegaze is back (well, sort of). The genre made famous in the UK has seen a resurgence across the world in recent years, particularly among bands that blend shoegaze with heavy metal, such as Deafheaven and Alcest. But there are bands that keep the genre to its true form, and leading the pack is Nothing. Led by Domenic Palermo, the band has slowly but surely risen up the ranks in the alternative rock scene. 2016 was a big year for them, with the release of Tired of Tomorrow, an album in which the sound may have a sunny, gentle disposition, however the lyrics and themes are anything but. As beautiful as it is dark, Nothing shows us that there is still hope in a world full of uncertainty.

About Greg (15 Articles)
I am a recent graduate of Digital Film Technology, but my main love is music. I am a huge fan of heavy metal and classic rock, although in recent times, my taste has ventured to that of alternative, indie, electronica, folk and jazz. I first got into metal when I was about 11 or 12 years old, for which I listened to a lot of nu-metal (such a dirty word nowadays). The only genres I don’t like very much are dubstep, techno and modern pop music. I've only ever been at a few gigs, but they've been memorable ones (such as seeing Torche and Soulfly, for which I got to meet Max Cavalera after the gig).
